Cats are one of New Zealand’s most popular pets. They provide company and comfort to many people, but they can also be killers.
They catch small animals, and birds, and don’t care if the bird is a common sparrow or an endangered black robin. There are three kinds of cats; companion cats, stray cats and feral cats. People have thought of many other ways to help protect our native birds and animals from cats. One idea is to put a microchip which contains all the owner’s details in all cats. This means that if someone finds a lost cat it can be returned home and will not become part of the stray cat population. Other ideas are keeping cats indoors when possible; having cats neutered to stop them having too many kittens; putting a collar and bell on every cat and making sure all cats are well-fed and cared for.

Great work Carrie. I agree with you. I think cats make great pets but it is important for cat owners to be responsible and keep them inside when they can, especially at night! Do yo have a pet cat at home?
ReplyDeletecats make great cuddling pets.. we got ours when it was 9 weeks old from the donna dolittle animal rescue..mum forgot to get her spayed and she had 8 kittens they were super cute..then we got her spayed..she is even insured upto $4000 thats crazy for a cat..
ReplyDeleteGreat work Carrie you've done well I agree with you too cats are great pets and companions but they eat our native birds but maybe its because owners don't do the responsible thing but there are still a lot of stray cats in the country. Do you have a pet cat?
